Western blot using CPTC-CD48-1 as primary antibody against human CD48 recombinant protein, mFc-His Tag (lane 2). Expected molecular weight - 69 - 72 kDa. Molecular weight standards are also included (lane 1).
Result: Negative
Automated western blot using CPTC-CD48-1 as primary antibody against PBMC (lane 2), HeLa (lane 3), Jurkat (lane 4), A549 (lane 5), MCF7 (lane 6), and NCI-H226 (lane 7) whole cell lysates. Expected molecular weight - 28 kDa, 19 kDa, and 69 - 72 kDa. Molecular weight standards are also included (lane 1).
Result: Negative
Western blot using CPTC-CD48-1 as primary antibody against PBMC (lane 2), HeLa (lane 3), Jurkat (lane 4), A549 (lane 5), MCF7 (lane 6), and NCI-H226 (lane 7) whole cell lysates. Expected molecular weight - 27.7 kDa and 19.4 kDa. Molecular weight standards are also included (lane 1). Target protein is subject to glycosylation which can affect the migration in electrophoresis. This can make the target appear as a higher molecular weight protein.
Result: Negative
Western blot using CPTC-CD48-1 as primary antibody against human lung (2), spleen (3), endometrium (4), breast (5), and ovary (6) tissue lysates. The expected molecular weight is 27.9 kDa. Vinculin was used as a loading control.

Function:
This gene encodes a member of the CD2 subfamily of immunoglobulin-like receptors which includes SLAM (signaling lymphocyte activation molecules) proteins. The encoded protein is found on the surface of lymphocytes and other immune cells, dendritic cells and endothelial cells, and participates in activation and differentiation pathways in these cells. The encoded protein does not have a transmembrane domain, however, but is held at the cell surface by a GPI anchor via a C-terminal domain which maybe cleaved to yield a soluble form of the receptor. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.CD48 (CD48 Molecule) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CD48 include Lymphoproliferative Syndrome, X-Linked, 1 and Cone-Rod Dystrophy 6. Among its related pathways are Gastric Cancer Network 2 and Cell surface interactions at the vascular wall. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include antigen binding. An important paralog of this gene is SLAMF1.Ligand for CD2. Might facilitate interaction between activated lymphocytes. Probably involved in regulating T-cell activation.
