Reference Materials

The goal of the NCI Clinical Proteomic Measurement Assessment Materials Program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is the development and documented characterization of complex biological mixtures for the evaluation of proteomic analysis platforms by NCI's Clinical Proteomic Technology Assessment for Cancer (CPTAC) program. Each proteomic standard reference material (SRM) will be accessible to the broader scientific community as they become available.

NIST has prepared and characterized the following performance mixtures:

• NCI-20
  • A mixture of twenty plasma proteins that models a human plasma sample in terms of content and dynamic range.
• Yeast proteome lysate
  • The yeast proteome lysate provides a more complex mixture of proteins that can be used to assess instrument sensitivity.
